Friday March 5, 2010 is Employee Appreciation Day

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Early last month we called for a Recognition Resolution - a commitment organizations make to recognize employees more often and in a more meaningful way. Next Friday is Employee Appreciation Day –a great opportunity to highlight your Recognition Resolution efforts and kick them up a notch!

What is Employee Appreciation Day?

Employee Appreciation Day first arrived on calendars in 1995. It was created by Recognition Professionals International to focus the attention of all employers, in all industries on employee recognition.

What you can do for Employee Appreciation Day?

The best way to acknowledge the day is to celebrate it! Encourage managers to take their teams out for lunch, have a massage therapist come into the office or host an Employee Appreciation Day reception with refreshments at the office.

We recommend using Employee Appreciation Day to promote and entrench recognition across the organization at all levels. To achieve this, give your employees and managers the ability to recognize one another by handing out thank you cards that staff can personalize and give to someone in the organization – whether it is a peer or a leader.

Here are three easy steps to writing a great thank you note that you can give your employees as a guide.

Step 1: Open with a greeting – make it personal!
“Hi, (enter recipient name),”

Step 2: Express your heartfelt gratitude – be specific!
“You did a really great job presenting your report in this morning’s meeting”

Step 3: Explain why their contributions matter
“It will help get everyone on the same page. Thank you.”

Happy Employee Appreciation Day planning!
